These tools are used to hold lower eyelids in position during meibography as well as for normal eversion of upper and lower eyelids for examination. Each tip has a different radius of curvature to accommodate various lid geometry.
V2.0 has removable, reusable and fully disinfectable tips. The handles are made with HP PA Nylon 12 which has a USP Class I-VI and US FDA guidance for Intact Skin Surface Devices (Please see included data sheet). Looking over the datasheets, the *best method for sterilization seems to be autoclaving. However, as they aren’t in contact with ocular surface/mucous membranes directly, a wash with soap/water and soak in 6% H2O2 should be sufficient. IPA should be avoided with this material.
The replaceable tips simply snap on and off, can be rotated and locked in 60° increments and are made using a new biocompatible resin. BioMed Clear Resin is a USP Class VI certified rigid material and is suitable for biocompatible applications requiring long-term skin or mucous membrane contact. It is fully disinfectable using autoclave or a 5 min soak in 70% IPA (among other methods) – making it more environmentally friendly than the disposable alternatives. Please see the material data sheets below for more detailed information regarding sterilization.
